Club Trip
Wortley Golf Club - 14th August
Nik Kelly has been organising the club trip for a few years now but its apparently just a coincidence that every year the chosen course favours those who draw the ball off the tee. This year Wortley Golf Club, near Sheffield was lucky enough to host 20 of Castlefields finest, plus the Captain who had been really looking forward to it until he was told about the traditional Captain's round of drinks. (Top tip - wait until most people have gone home).
Jim Sykes unfortunately missed the minibus because he overslept had been told the wrong time, but luckily Daz Brown was able to pick him up and the full contingent were welcomed at Wortley with bacon rolls and tea/coffee.
Apparently Wortley have their own version of the 80s classic "Where's Wally" game and cries of "Where's Nigel" were soon ringing round the clubhouse and carried on for most of the day. Here's a photo for you to join in as well. (Clue - think of a colour-blind wasp).

As usual, the morning competition was for teams - this year we had 7 three-balls playing 12 holes and the winners were Paul Hardcastle, Conrad Drake and Richard Badrock. I don't think that Richard really let the other two share the money.

After a good lunch of sandwiches and chips and small quantities of liquid, the afternoon competition was an individual stableford off full handicap. The Captain played incredibly well, (for 6 holes) and then proceeded to investigate the wooded areas around the course - perhaps it was his age, not wayward tee shots.

Jim Sykes managed to win 2 of the nearest pin prizes with Richard Squire picking up the third and he was also third overall, just behind Paul Hardcastle (on a countback) and the eventual winner - Nik Kelly. Here's Nik receiving the trophy from the Captain, but unfortunately we need to send this photo to Crimewatch as we haven't seen it since.

The evening meal was excellent, with no room for vegetables after the plates had been piled high with three different roasts. The Fishman and Nigel were both specially catered for with Red Snapper and gluten-free yorkshire pudding respectively, although some-one did accidentally take almost all the special gravy. Poor Nik Kelly didn't see why they should be the only ones being made a fuss of, so he had a special dessert.

Later in the evening a card school was formed but the wiser heads just had a quiet drink at the bar and then we went to wake Ash up for the minibus home.
