Lewis Broadley Shield

The first 'Major' of the 2011/12 season at Castlefields Golf Club was the Lewis
Broadley Shield with 16 drawn pairs competing in
a greensomes format event.
The continued good weather meant the course was dry and
firm with the balls running further than in recent weeks and with faster greens
the placement of the pins on some of the greens provided a real challenge for
the players.
Following a
back-nine countback Runners-Up were Donald Booth (one half of the winning team
from 2010) and Barry Goldspink who returned a Gross 67 (Handicap 19.5) for a
Nett 47.5, and the Winners were Darren Jennings and Rob Moore with an even par
Gross 54 (Handicap 13.5) for a Nett 40.5. The winners completed their round
with Rob Moore scoring a hole in one at the 18th and capping a good day they
were the sole winners of the 2's Club, (on the 11th). Best Gross was returned by Matthew Spink and Shaun
Harris with 57.
