Philip Bentley Trophy
Sunday 25th April, 2010
First played in 1993, this has always been a pairs competition with a draw for partners, but latterly it has been played as a fourball betterball with Stableford scoring. It commemorates Philip Bentley, who joined the club in 1930, when he was 10 years old, and remained a member for sixty-two years. He was secretary of the club for forty-one of those years and still held that office when he died.
For the second year running Will Tolley was a winner, but this year his partner was Samuel Hardcastle who improved on his runner-up position from last year. Amazingly, the winner score was exactly the same as last year - 47 points. Runners-up were the slightly older pairing of Terry Blackburn and Fred Leek who had 44 points.
Captain, Paul Goldspink presents the trophy to Samuel and Will.
