Rosie Dyson Trophy
31st August
Unfortunately, it is the tenth anniversary of Rosie Dyson's tragic death in 1999, just a few months after her husband Ronnie Dyson had finished his year as captain of Castlefields. A challenge match has been played most years since then with Rastrick Bowling Club where the new committee were very keen to keep this event going. Despite some late withdrawals from our side, we managed to have 5 golf fourballs at Castlefields in the morning and 10 bowls singles in the afternoon. We managed to arrange competitive handicaps for those bowlers without official ones, so that Castlefields only won the golf 7-3 (with 2 pairs only winning on the last green). But no such luck with the bowls as we lost heavily despite most of us getting a decent start - Craig George was our lone winner. Rosie’s sister Mary, was on hand to present the trophy to the Bowling Club who won 12-8 overall. Both clubs provided food during the day – the costs of which were more than covered by a raffle at the bowling club where we did at least enjoy some success. All in all a very enjoyable day.
Here's the victorious captain, Ken Holroyd with the trophy.
