Scratch Cup / Tiger Trophy
19th July
The current Scratch Cup was donated by Rodney Gaukroger when he was captain in 1981, but a similar competition had been played for many years before that. To add interest and increase entries, higher handicap players have been encouraged to take part to win the nett prize, (Tiger Trophy), with a handicap limit of 15. Unfortunately, only 11 golfers completed the 36 holes on Sunday - Nik Kelly had to withdraw at the half-way stage with a back injury.
The two leaders of the Scratch Cup both had putts on the last green for an aggregate of 119. Nigel Bell would have won on a second round countback, but his putt slid past and Ryan Joyce made no mistake with his tricky 6 footer to win by a single shot.
The Tiger Trophy was equally close. The first round leader, (the Captain), had an appalling second round and was quickly overtaken by Paul Hardcastle who had two very steady rounds of 53 nett. However, Shaun Harris rediscovered his short game over the last nine holes to post an excellent nett 48 to go with his first round 57 and also win by a single shot.

The 2s Club kitty was shared by Ryan (4th hole round 2), James (17th hole round 2) and Nigel(7th hole round 1) - they all win the princely sum of £4.
By anonymous request, the first round leaderboard, (obviously the finger pointing is a red herring). Anyone concerned about the costs of this magnificent high-tech addition should rest assured that it was less than the moat and duck-house on the captains expense claim this month.
Unfortunately, some additional programming work is required so that the leaderboard can be updated and re-ordered after the second round. There was also much discussion on the tradition of the last man being ineligible for the following year. Anyway, I'm sorry Richard but coming last in both competitions still only gets you 0.1 back for each round.
