Competitions

Updated 17th April 2021

We intend to run as many normal competitions as possible this year, subject to lockdown being eased as predicted by the government.

Please read the sections below on Entry Fees and Local Rules

Entry Fees

Competition entry fees must be paid in cash in advance. We suggest that you pay £10 to cover a few events and then top-up when prompted by Richard Badrock who will administer the fees again this year.

We will put out small brown envelopes in the box with the cards and you simply write your name on, include your money and post them into the outside letterbox.

Medals, Stablefords & Bogeys - £3  per event

Majors - £4 per event

Local Rules

Flagsticks

The hole cups have been inserted the right way round so the previous rules on flagsticks should be disregarded.

  • Do not touch the flagstick
  • The ball is considered holed if it comes to rest and any part of it is below the surface of the green.
  • Gimmes are not allowed

Preferred Lies apply in Bunkers Only

When a player's ball lies in a bunker the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area, i.e. it must still be in the bunker. Please note: The area cannot be smoothed before placing.

Score Cards

Only Handle Your Own Card!

We are allowed to choose to allow methods of scoring in stroke play that do not strictly comply with Rule 3.3b, or do not comply with the normal methods used under Rule 3.3b.

  • We will put out a limited number of cards - please do not enter the clubhouse to get a card.
  • Players must fill in their details on their own card and agree who is their marker, but must not exchange cards on the first tee! The player should write the marker's name where the Marker's Signature normally goes.
  • Players should record their own gross scores on each hole in column A. If the competition is a Stableford also complete their own nett score and points for each hole.
  • Players should record their marker's gross score on each hole in the Marker's Score Column.  If the competition is a Stableford you can also add the marker's points for each hole.
  • At the end of the round, do not exchange cards! It is not necessary for the marker to sign the player’s card, but some form of verbal certification should take place
  • Due to the way that the WHS works, unless it is genuinely impossible for you to do so, please enter your own score through the Master Scoreboard website and email/text/WhatsApp a picture of your card to Rob Moore (Tel: 07771 588335, email: howler@sky.com) - more details here!
  • If that is impossible, please post your card in the black letter box on the outside of the clubhouse door.
  • All scores and cards should be submitted on the day that you actually play.
  • Please key your Gross score per hole to Master Scoreboard, it will work out your net score and Stablefords points. Enter zero for any hole where you picked up in a Stableford - just ignore NR being displayed in that case because it only applies to your total gross and nett scores.
  • Due to some quirks in the new WHS for Stablefords, we recommend that you don't pick up on holes unless you are going to score a nett double bogey or worse, e.g. if your playing handicap is 17, on the stroke index 18 hole hole out for a gross 5 or better, but pick up if you cannot do better than a 6.
  • Rule 3.3b of the Rules of Golf requires you to put your Course Handicap on the scorecard, but it is also recommended that you include your WHS Index and Playing Handicap also.

As a final reminder please fill in the following on the scorecard :-
Your Name;
Your Handicap Index (WHS);

Your Course Handicap  - in the Handicap box;

Your Playing Handicap - in the Strokes Received box;
Competition;
Date;
Marker's Name;
Your Signature.
Your gross scores in column A
Your marker's scores in the marker's score column

Competition Entry

Book your tee slot using the same online booking system as for recreational golf.

Remember that members and visitors are allowed to play on the course even if they are not taking part in the competition.

But competition entrants have priority.

If you are having problems finding someone to play with as a marker, please contact a committee member and we will try to help.
