World Handicap System (WHS)

The new WHS will provide you with a Course Handicap Calculation for all the courses you play, depending on the difficulty of the course (slope rating).

At Castlefields, there are separate course ratings and slopes for Men and Ladies - please ensure that you use the correct one!

Once you have worked out your Course Handicap Calculation you will then need to work out your Playing Handicap by applying the relevant Handicap Allowance which depends on the competition format - individual strokeplay competitions are all 95%.

Please see the table below which explains both formulas.

It is the individual players responsibility to know your own Handicap Index, which can be found on the Masterscorecard Website and is updated daily.

Example

Damian Roebuck currently has a Handicap Index of 13.3.

Castlefields GC has a provisional slope rating of 77, therefore Damian Roebuck Course Handicap Calculation for Castlefields GC would be 9 (13.3 x 77/113 = 9.06)

Damian Roebuck Playing Handicap Calculation for any individual competition (medal/stableford/bogey etc) would be 9 (9 x 95% = 8.55) therefore he would play off a handicap of 9 for individual competitions at Castlefields GC.

To make it easier for all members at Castlefields Golf Club we are going to display Handicap Conversion Tables for Men and Ladies in the windows of the main room (facing out) so you can easily see your Playing Handicap for the day. Please make sure that you look at the correct table!

All that will be required on the scorecards is to mark your Handicap Index in the correct box and then strokes received by looking at the relevant table in the clubhouse window. Hopefully in the early weeks there will be a member of the club committee available to assist with any enquiries on the day.
